Interior Spray damp proofing is required when a separate interior finish or wood framing is applied directly to a concrete wall that’s in contact with soil. It must extend from the basement floor to the finished grade height, forming a continuous protective layer.

While often used interchangeably, damp proofing and waterproofing serve different purposes.
Damp proofing is designed to resist soil moisture.
Waterproofing, on the other hand, blocks both moisture and liquid water.
Many homeowners assume their homes are waterproofed when they’ve only been damp proofed. In most cases, with proper drainage systems such as weeping tile and good landscaping, damp proofing is sufficient — particularly in drier climates like Calgary.
However, for homes in areas with flat grading, poor drainage, or high water tables, investing in a full waterproofing system provides stronger, long-term protection and peace of mind.
